NISP
The National Innovation and Startup Policy (NISP) 2019 is an initiative of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, through the MoE Innovation Cell (MIC). It provides a framework for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to create a vibrant ecosystem that promotes innovation, entrepreneurship, intellectual property creation, startup incubation, and commercialization of research.
Objectives of NISP
- Foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among students and faculty.
- Encourage the conversion of ideas into products, services, and startups.
- Support intellectual property rights (IPR), patents, and technology transfer.
- Establish incubation centers and innovation hubs in educational institutions.
- Facilitate industry-academia collaboration.
- Provide mentoring, funding, and networking opportunities for startups.
- Integrate innovation and entrepreneurship into the academic curriculum.
Key Features of NISP
- Innovation Ecosystem Development
Establishment of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cells, Incubation Centers, and Institution's Innovation Councils (IICs).
- Start-up Support
Mentorship, pre-incubation, incubation, seed funding, and investor connectivity.
- IPR and Technology Transfer
Support for patent filing, copyrights, trademarks, and commercialization of innovations.
- Faculty and Student Participation
Faculty can engage in startup activities, consultancy, and innovation projects.
Students are encouraged to become job creators rather than job seekers. - Industry Collaboration
Strong partnerships with industries, entrepreneurs, investors, and government agencies.
